Fire Design case study
The large modern five bedroom detached house had large open uncluttered rooms, with a modern clean style and finished to a high standard throughout. The downstairs space is very important to the owners and used for relaxing, socialising but also used for business. The open-plan main living room contained a chimney but the owners wanted a fire feature but a large screen television was also wanted as focal point for the main living area. They had looked at audiovisual furniture and several gas and electric real fires but couldn't find a design they liked and that fitted with the style of the house. In addition, as they had under floor heating throughout they did not need the heat, mess or trouble of a wood or coal fire.
The couple was first attracted to the Fuego style and their use of stone, natural hard woods and stainless steel but their proposed design for the main living room solved the problem the audiovisual equipment and a real fire.
Fuego's design enlarged the width of the existing chimney and their Fireslot fitted into the new structure. The audiovisual system was built into this structure with a flat screen television recessed to fit level with the new surface that was finished to blend with the rest of the room. A low shelf was also built around its base in the same stone as the Firelot and extended on one side of the structure to store the satellite box and other audiovisual equipment, tidily keeps wiring out of sight.
The overall effect of the fire design is stunning. The enlarged chimney galvanise the focus of the whole room while the recessed pocket for the plasma televisions keeps in with the clean lines seen throughout the house. The stonework, like all its products the Fireslot is hand made by them in the UK, and along with the bespoke shelve is finished in a subtle neutral colour with contrasting darker small flecks: that looks great from a distance or close-up. The real flame provides an attractive almost mesmerising flame with beautiful atmospheric glow.
